South Perthshire Community Policing – July / August 2026

Hello all, 

Hope the summer has been treating everyone well. The South Perthshire Community Team have been kept very busy throughout July and August with work locally and beyond. Hence why I’m doing two months in one!

In this update I’d like to highlight some of the work Pauline and I have done.

Neighbourhood alerts is really the best way for me to reach out to the community, so I’d like to use this facility to build a dialogue. If readers here wish to share this on other platforms to further the reach, please feel free to do so.

First things first, what have Pauline and I been up to?

After receiving multiple complaints regarding speeding on Dollerie Terrace in Crieff, we carried out speed checks and patrols. This resulted in in one electric motorbike being seized and a male being charged with traffic offences. 

We left one of our cutout police officers to deter speeding, unfortunately this was vandalised. If anyone has any knowledge of this, please get in touch.

Pauline assisted with colleagues from education as part of her specialism as a Local Contest Liaison Officer, which is a part of the wider strategy to prevent radicalisation.  

We attended at Macrosty Park in Crieff with a scam prevention van, giving advice and resources to members of the community who may be concerned about this rising issue. We had some good conversations, in particular with people with elderly parents. If anyone reading has concerns about a relative falling foul of scams, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. 

Pauline and I attended St Fillan’s Community Council Meeting, passing an update on crime and hearing of wider concerns there. We will be attending all local council meetings where we can when they align with our shifts and commitments. 

We were both in attendance at the Crieff Highland Gathering and I’m pleased to say it went without any real incident. A great day for the community so well done to the organisers. 

A significant amount of work went into investigating a high-priority individual in our area by me and Pauline. Over 40 charges were brought against this person which has resulted in them being remanded to prison. This work will hopefully see a reduction in anti-social behaviour in the community and should lesson the strain on ourselves and partner agencies. 

In terms of deployments, Pauline and I have been to the Senior Golf Open at Gleneagles, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, an anti-immigration protest in Falkirk and multiple drug search warrants throughout Tayside.

On to some areas I wanted to address.

I’ve frequently been asked about the police station in Crieff. Are there people working out of there? Why did no one answer the door?

The office in Crieff is not a manned station. What that means is there is no staffed front counter there - the nearest is Perth. There are teams of Response police officers based there as well as Community Police (Pauline and I) working shifts. Officers based in Crieff start and finish duty there, but cover a wide geographic area and chances are we out of the office at calls or on enquiries etc. 

If officers are in and someone rings the doorbell, we’ll answer if we’re able. If you don’t get an answer we’re generally out and about.

I have been asked why there are police vehicles parked at the back but no one answering the door. If there are vehicles at the back and no one answering the door there’s generally no one in.

There are circumstances where officers are in the office but still can’t answer the door. For instance if we’re dealing with a vulnerable person, noting statements etc. 

We’ve been out and about most days in the last few months – my step count has never been higher! However, we do have to balance this with other commitments. Pauline and I are also responsible for investigating high priority nominals, attending events and taking immediate grade calls for police throughout Perth and Kinross. So it’s about getting the balance right. 

The last point I want to bring up is reports that are being made to police about anti-social behaviour and drug dealing. I’d really like to encourage the community to report any issues they’ve seen. If we get enough reports of an individual dealing drugs we can build an intelligence picture, to then obtain a search warrant. It’s the only way for us to really tackle dealing but it requires help from the community.
